The new Calgary Pro Musica Society Young Artists Development Program is intended to discover, nurture and promote young Calgary musicians. Participants in the Program will receive exclusive instruction from the prestigious Pro Musica visiting artists. Come hear Calgary’s finest young talent showcased in this special event concert.

Caroline Kim

Caroline Kim - cellist

Caroline began playing the cello at the age of eight in her native Korea. After immigrating to Canada a year later, she began studying with Beth Root Sandvoss at the Mount Royal College Conservatory and is currently in the Conservatory Academy Programme and the Calgary Youth Orchestra. Since 2004, she has been a frequent competitor at the Kiwanis Music Festival, winning a total of 18 classes. Caroline has spent two summers at the Young Artist Seminar at Rocky Ridge Music Center in Colorado. She was the youngest student to be accepted into this prestigious programme and also won the concerto competition in 2008. Caroline is 16 years old and plans to continue her cello studies after completing high school.

Scott Mac-Isaac - pianist

Scott began studying piano at the age of 6 is currently a student of Marilyn Engle. He completed his Royal Conservatory of Music ARCT exam last June and has had great success in a long list of piano competitions. He has twice won the Calgary Concerto Competition and in July 2008, he was the Grand-Prize winner at the Canadian Music Competition in Quebec City. Internationally he was a Second Prize winner at the Bradshaw Buono International Piano Competition in New York. Scott is a 17 year old grade 12 student and participates in Mount Royal College Conservatory Academy Programme. Scott plans to continue his studies next year with Dr. Engle at the University of Calgary.


Caroline Kim

Matthew McGuigan - flutist

Matthew is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Music in Secondary Education at the University of Calgary. He has studied flute for 8 years and his teachers have included Mary Sullivan, Judy Reside and Gwen Klassen. Matthew is an avid ensemble player and has served as principal flute of both the Calgary Youth Orchestra and the University of Calgary Orchestra and as concert master of the University Symphonic Band. Before entering university, he studied piano and clarinet at Mount Royal College Conservatory and was a flute student in the Academy Programme. In the summer of 2008, he attended the Performance Academy at Le Domaine Forget, Quebec. Matthew is 21 years old and last March performed at Kiwanis Music Festival “Stars of the Festival” concert as a the winner of the 2009 Provincial/National woodwind class.
